NOTICE OF RACE

 

 

Rules:  The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the 2005-2008 Racing Rules of Sailing, this NOR, Class rules, sailing instructions and appendices.

Advertising:  Advertising will be restricted to category A for all non-Olympic classes.  For Olympic classes advertising will be category C.

Eligibility and Entry:  The regatta is open to all boats of the Finn, Laser, Laser Radial, Vanguard 15, Club 420 and Sunfish classes.  Sunfish competitors must be a sunfish class member and must provide proof of membership.

Registration:  Advanced registration available on-line at riisa.org or http://www.regattanetwork.com/html/newcal.php for all classes.  Registration will be available at the Barrington Yacht Club on Saturday morning starting at 0800. Registrations received after May 30 will have a $10.00 late fee.

Fees:  Finn, Laser, Laser Radial and Sunfish Classes - $50.00.  Vanguard 15 and Club 420 classes - $70.00.  There is a $5.00 rebate for sailors who can present a current membership card in a national authority.  These fees include lunch for both days and dinner Saturday night, and awards. 

Schedule of Events:  Skippers meeting at Barrington Yacht Club for Sunfish Class only at 0930 on Saturday. All classes will launch from Barrington Beach.  First signal will be at 1100.  Dinner and reception will be at the Barrington Yacht Club at 1800 Saturday (cash bar).  Sunday, first signal will be at 9:30.  Sunfish course will be off Barrington Beach.  Laser, Laser Radials and Finns will start off Bristol Highlands, south of “Flasher 1”.  Vanguard 15’s and Club 420’s will be on the southerly side of the shipping channel, in the vicinity of Ohio Ledge.  No race will start after 1500 on Sunday, June 8th. Snacks, cash  bar and awards at the conclusion of racing on Sunday.

Sailing Instructions: The sailing instructions will be available on-line one week prior to the regatta, and at the Barrington Yacht Club and Barrington Beach.

Courses:  The courses will be windward-leeward-triangle, modified windward-leeward-triangle, trapezoid and windward-leeward (with a separate finish line to leeward of the starting line at the discretion of the race committee) for all classes.

Scoring:  The Low Point Scoring System (Appendix A) of the Racing Rules will apply.  There will be one throw out race if five or more races have been completed.

Alternative Penalties:  Rule 44.2 of the Racing Rules will apply.

Safety:  Each competitor will be responsible for wearing a US Coast Guard Approved PFD at all times on the water.

Protests:  All protests will be heard at the Barrington Yacht Club immediately after each day’s racing.

Notice of Event

All liquor or other alcoholic beverages consumed on the Barrington Yacht Club property MUST be purchased from the Yacht Club.  No alcoholic beverages are allowed on Barrington Beach.  Launch area at the Barrington Beach is to the left as you enter the beach.  Special arrangements have been made with the town to allow boats to be stored on the beach Saturday night, and security will be provided.

Hotel Accommodations:  best area is in the town of Seekonk, MA on Route 6, about 15 minutes from Barrington. i.e. Ramada Inn, Hampton Inn, Motel 6, etc. No camping is allowed at the Barrington Yacht Club.  Showers and bathrooms will be available 24hours a day at the Barrington Yacht Club.

 

WAIVER OF LIABILITY AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF ASSUMPTION OF RISK

 

In consideration of the Barrington Yacht Club (BYC) as the organizing authority allowing me to register and participate in the 2008 RIISA/Leeds Mitchell Regatta, I recognize and understand that the Regatta is voluntary in nature and participation is at the invitation of BYC. I recognize that I incur risks attendant to sail and water related activities, particularly in cold weather, and I assume the risk of any bodily injury that I may incur while participating in the Regatta. I fully agree to waive any and all claims, charges, losses and liabilities, including those caused by negligence, that BYC or RIISA, their respective officers, directors, trustees, employees, members, volunteers or agents might have for, and agree that BYC and RIISA, its respective officers, directors, trustees, employees, members, volunteers or agents shall not be liable for, any bodily injury to myself incurred while I am participating in the Regatta or which may arise from, or in any way be in connection with, the activities of the Regatta and/or its organizers or hosts. I am aware that the activities may involve maneuvering a boat, sailboard, or watercraft in deep waters in potentially hazardous conditions which may include, without limitation, cold water and/or air temperatures, strong winds and currents, high waves, sudden and unexpected immersion in deep waters and collision with other watercraft or stationary objects such as docks, pilings and buoys. I understand that I am responsible for my actions while I may be (1) participating in the Regatta or traveling to and from the race course and (2) on the grounds of or traveling to and from the BYC. I further hereby release and discharge BYC and RIISA, and its respective officers, directors, trustees, employees, members, volunteers or agents, from any and all negligence, liability, damage, injury, loss, cost or expense, including reasonable attorney’s fees, incurred by me and arising in connection with or as a result of my participation in the Regatta.
